Accessible communication

Everyday communication, made simpler.

TroKat Voice is a talking picture board for people who know what they mean but can't find the word. Tap a photo and the word is spoken out loud in a natural voice. Each board is built for one person, with just what they need, not what everyone needs.

Why Voice

Most communication boards are packed with hundreds of pictures. For someone with a brain injury, finding the right one can be harder than finding the word. TroKat Voice started with one person and holds only what she uses, so the right picture is always easy to find.

How it started

I created TroKat Voice for my sister. The usual communication boards were huge, and finding the right picture was harder than saying the word. So I built one with just what she needs. The day she called me and told me she wanted grapes, she got her voice back.

What it does

Built to do a few things well.

Speaks the word

Tap and it talks

Tap a picture and Voice says the word and shows it full screen. Tap it again to hear it again, which helps when showing someone else.

FaceTime

Call with one tap

A picture in the Call group starts a FaceTime call to that person. No dialing.

Voice search

Say it to find it

Tap Say it, speak a word, and the matching picture comes up and is spoken.

Easy to see

Simple to use

Big pictures sorted into groups like Call, Food and Household, with Food split into dinners, sides, desserts and fruit. Back and More buttons instead of swiping, and pictures stay in the same spot so they're easy to find.

Setup

Easy to keep up to date

Add a picture by taking a photo or choosing one, type the word, and tap Say it to hear how it sounds before saving. Move pictures, or remove what's no longer needed, with an Undo if you change your mind. Setup opens with a press and hold, so it isn't opened by accident.
